Interact with an alien
I've been trying to figure out just how they did the interactive "Turtle Talk with Crush"
at Disneyland. My son thought it was so cool! I knew that there should be a way that we could do a similar thing here at Greenbush for kids that visit.
After looking at many different software options, the winner is Fix8. This free software download for windows allows us to have a computer with a webcam and a mic which then lets the user select from a variety of avatars. The avatar will follow the head & mouth movement of the person in front of the webcam.
On the other end we have a monitor, webcam and a mic setup for the participants. We are using XLR mics and going through 2 separate mixing boards. This allows us to disguise our voice through one mixing board while hearing the participant normally through our headphones.
We have been working with "Starsky" our alien on our trial. Our hopes are to bring this resource to the Science Center where the kids can interact with the character(s) as a learning resource or just another really cool thing to come to Greenbush for!

George Washington Presentation on Ustream
During the webcast, David McCullough, Pulitzer Prize-winning author, teaches a nationwide audience of students about George Washington using documents newly accessible on ConSource.org. Any student who participated in the live webcast was able to ask questions of Mr. McCullough.

Safe video sharing for schools
School Tube is a video sharing sight that lets students produce their original videos and upload them with teacher approval. Some from Girard and Goddard schools on there:

Kansas School using Mogulus
While browsing through the education channels on Mogulus, I found a channel for USD 405, Lyons, KS. At this time they have had 28,557 Total Unique Viewer Minutes. Way to go USD 405, hope we will see other school districts in Kansas create their own channels and produce great material for education.
Check out their channel here: http://www.mogulus.com/usd405
